Reproduction In Animals, Class 8th Notes

THESE NOTES ARE PREPARED ACCORDING TO JKBOSE SYLLABI IN SIMPLIFIED AND CONCISE  PATTERN

                            Exercises

Q. 1 Explain the importance of reproduction in animals?

Ans: Reproduction helps living organisms to produce young ones like them. It helps them to carry on their generation.

Q.2  Describe the process of fertilization in human beings?

Ans:  Fertilization occurs when sperm from male fuses with egg from female.

This results in the formation of zygote.

The Zygote develops into embryo which later  forms a baby.

In humans, internal fertilization takes place.

Q. 3 Choose the appropriate answer.

(a) External Fertilization occurs
      (i)in female body.
      (ii) outside female body.
      (iii) in male body.
      (iv) outside male body.

Ans:  (i)Outside female body.

(b) A tadpole develops into an adult frog by the process of
(i) fertilization.
(ii) metamorphosis.
(iii) embedding.
(iv) budding.

Ans: (ii) Metamorphosis.

(c) The number of nuclei present in zygote is

         (i) none.           (ii) one.
        (iii) two.            (iv) four.

Ans: (ii) one.

Q.4  Indicate whether following statements are true or false

a. Oviparous animals give birth to young ones
Ans: FALSE

b. Each sperm is a single cell

ANS: TRUE

c. External fertilization takes place in frog

ANS: TRUE

d. A new individual develops from a cell called gamate

ANS: FALSE

e. Egg layed after fertilization is made up of single cell

ANS: TRUE

f. Amoeba reproduces by budding

ANS: FALSE

g. Fertilization is necessary even in asexual reproduction

ANS: FALSE

h. Binary fission is a method of asexual reproduction

ANS: TRUE

i. A zygote is formed as a result of fertilization

ANS: TRUE

j. An embryo is made of single cell

ANS: FALSE

Q. 5 Give two differences between zygote and Foetus

Ans: Zygote is single celled whereas Foetus has lakhs of cells,

Zygote is first stage of development of baby whereas Foetus is final stage of development of baby

Q.6  Define asexual reproduction? Describe two methods of asexual reproduction in animals.

Ans:  Asexual reproduction is the type of reproduction in which only one parent is involved in reproduction.

In this type of reproduction, gamates are not produced.

There are many methods of asexual reproduction e.g;

Binary Fission: In binary fission, a single cell divides into two daughter cells. It occurs in bacteria.

Budding: In budding, a bud grows on the body  which develops into new organism. It occurs in hydra.

Q.7 In which female reproductive organ does embryo get embedded?

Ans: The embryo gets embedded in the uterus of females. The embryo develops into foetus there.

Q.8  What is metamorphosis? Give examples.

Ans: Metamorphosis is a change in the body structure and shape of some living organisms.

In metamorphosis, a larve develops into an adult.

It occurs in Frogs, Butterflies etc.

Q.9 Differentiate between Internal Fertilization and External Fertilization?

Ans:

Internal                                     External
Fertilizationtakes place|Fertilization takes
Inside the body             | place outside body

Less number of eggs    | Large number of
are produced                 |eggs are produced
E.g, Cow, Humans         | Eg,   Fishes, Frogs
