Q. Define Drug? What is meant by drug abuse or substance abuse? 

Ans: Drug is any substance which affects the physiological functioning of body. 

Substance abuse or drug abuse means use of drugs for recreation or mood altering characterized by addiction and withdrawal symptoms. 

Q. What are the problems faced by Adolescents? 

Ans: Adolescence is the age of transition from childhood to adulthood. It is also called as 'Teenage.' 

1. Adolescents may have childhood adulthood conflict. 

2. They may have difficulty to adjust with family, relatives, school. 

3. They may have anxieties and fears  due to mensuration, nocturnal discharge etc. 

4. They may have acne, loneliness, phobias.






Q. Why are Adolescents prone to drugs? 

Ans:  Drug abuse mainly starts in adolescents. The reasons are as follows; 

1. Pressure from friends. 

2. Curiosity, boredom or enjoyment. 

3.  Challenging society or satisfying ego or rebellious nature. 

4. Family problems, painful memories.



Q. What are the signs and symptoms of drug abuse? Or 

How will you identify someone involved in drug abuse? 


Ans: There are many signs which helps us to know if a person is involved in drug abuse; 

1. Insomnia, loss of appetite and loss of weight. 

2. Very aggressive behaviour, mood swings and isolation from family and friends 

3. Depression and loss of interest in day to day activities. 

4. Bloodshot in eyes with smaller pupil. 

5  Unstable gait, slurred speech. 

6. Health issues, tremors, fits or seizures.




Q. What are the different forms of drugs which cause addiction? 

Ans: Drugs are of different types, which include; 

1. Alcohol: It is liquid which is directly absorbed by duodenum lining. 

It causes liver damage and cancer. 

2. Tobacco: It is made from leaves of nicotina plant. 

It causes mouth and lung cancer. 

3. Opioids: They act as pain reliever E.g. morphine, heroin 

4. Cannaboids: They are obtained from cannabis plant. E.g Marijuana, Ganja. 

5. Coca Alkaloids: They are obtained from Coca plant e.g. Cocaine.


Q. What are STD's? 

Ans: STD means Sexually Transmitted Diseases. These are the diseases transmitted from one person to another by sexual acts. 

They are caused by virus, bacteria or fungi. 

They include AIDS, gonorrhoea, syphilis etc.


Q. What is HIV AIDS? How is AIDS transmitted? 

Ans: HIV means human immunodeficiency virus. It is a retrovirus and causes a diseases called AIDS i.e Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. 

AIDS is transmitted by sexual intercourse. 

It is also transmitted by blood transfusion, use of syringes etc 

It also passes from mother to child.


Q. What are they symptoms of AIDS? 

Ans: The symptoms of AIDS include; 

1. Dry cough, short breath. 

2. Swelling of lymph glands. 

3. Weight loss, diarrhoea, nausea, cramps. 

4. Infections, pneumonia etc.


Q. How can AIDS be diagnosed? 

Ans: AIDS can be diagnosed by various tests which include; 

1. ELISA: Enzyme linked immunosorbant assay 

2. PCR: Polymerase chain reaction 

3. Western blot.
