Nutrition In Plants, Class 7th Notes

THESE NOTES ARE PREPARED ACCORDING TO JKBOSE SYLLABI IN SIMPLIFIED AND CONCISE PATTERN

   Exercises

1. Why do organisms need to take food?

Ans:  Organisms need to take food for energy, growth and maintenance of their bodies.

2. Distinguish between a parasite and a saprotroph?

Ans: An organisms which stays inside or outside another organims and derives nutrition from other it is called Parasite e.g Cuscuta, Tapworm

An organim which derives its nutrition from dead and decaying matter in the solution form is called Saprotroph e.g Fungi

3. How would you test the presence of starch in leaves?

Ans: We can test the presence of starch in the leaves with the help of Iodine test.

When starch reacts with Iodine solution, the colour of Iodine solution changes into blue-b0lack.

4. Give a brief discription of the process of synthesis of food in green plants?

Ans: The synthesis of food in green plants takes place by the process of Photosynthesis.

During Photosynthesis, the Carbon dioxide reacts with water inside chlorophyll in presence of Sunlight and forms Glucose and Oxygen.

6CO2   +  6H2O  ------> C6H12O6    + O2

5. Show with the help of sketch that the plants are ultimate source of food?

Ans:

6. Fill in the blanks:

a. Green plants are called .Autotrophs.. since they synthesis their own food.

b. The food synthesized by plants is stored as .Starch.

c. In photosynthesis solar energy is captured by the pegment called .Chlorophyll.

d. During photosynthesis, plants take in .Carbon Dioxide. and release .Oxygen.

7. Name the following:
i. A parasitic plant with yellow, slender and tubular stem .Cuscuta.

ii. A plant that has both autotrophic and heterotrophic mode of nutrition .Pitcher Plant.

iii. The pores through which leaves exchange gases .Stomata.

8. Tick the correct answer:

a. Amarbel is an example of :
i. Autotroph    ii. Parasite    iii. Saprotroph   iv. Host

Ans: i. Parasite

b. The plant which traps and feeds on insects is:
i. Cuscuta   ii. China rose   iii. Pitcher plant   iv. Rose

Ans: iii. Pitcher Plant

9. Match the items in column I with those of Column II

Ans:
Chlorophyll           Leaf
Nitrogen               Bacteria
Amarbel                Parasite
Animals                 Heterotrophs
Insects                  Pitcher Plant

10. Mark "T" if the statement is True and "F" if it is false:

i. Carbon dioxide is released during Photosynthesis   (T/F)
Ans: False

ii. Plants which synthesise their own food themselves are called saprotrophs (T/F)
Ans: False

iii. The product of Photosynthesis is not a protein  (T/F)
Ans: True

iv. Solar energy is converted into chemical energy during Photosynthesis  (T/F)
Ans: True

11. Which part of Plant takes in carbon dioxide from the air for photosynthesis?
i. Root hair    ii. Stomata   iii. Leaf veins  iv. Sepals

Ans: ii. Stomata

12. Plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere mainly through their:
i. Roots   ii. Stem    iii. Flower   iv. Leaves

Ans: iv. Leaves

13.
i. Which of following is an Insectivorous plant?
a. Lichens   b. Venus fly trap   c. Mushrooms  d. Yeast

Ans: b.  Venus fly trap

ii. Two different organisms living togather and both benefitting from each other are known as
a. Saprophytic   b. Symbiotic    c. Parasitic   d. Heterotrophs
Ans:  b. Symbiotic

iii. Tiny pores on surface of leaves are
a. Lamina   b. Stomata  c. Chlorophyll   d. Leaf Scale

Ans: b. Stomata

iv. Which of the following is the green colour pigment in leaves:
