Greetings,
As we know, the State Council of Educational Research & Training (JK SCERT) initiated review and revision of assessment process in light of the recommendations of National Education Policy – 2020 & provisions of Right to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Regarding assessment & evaluation, the RTE (Amendment) Act, 2019 in its section 16 provides as under,: “……There shall be a regular examination in the 5th class & 8th Class at the end of every academic year”.

Besides that, National Education Policy 2020 envisages as follows:
“…….all students will take school examination in grade 3, 5 & 8 which will be conducted by appropriate authority …..”
However, annual examination (year-end assessment) of class-VIII, for current academic session shall be conducted by SCERT as per guidelines according to scheme of assessment in vogue.
Keeping in view that students require proper planning and thorough understanding of mechanism of assessment to prepare themselves to achieve competency in each subject, SCERT has prepared model/sample papers for class 8th which will help student to plan their preparations/studies for achieving better performance and desired competencies. The focus is on Learning-outcomes and model papers will help teachers/students to get better insight of academics and will help them to know the pattern of questions inside out to perform efficiently in forthcoming assessment.
