THESE NOTES ARE PREPARED ACCORDING TO JKBOSE SYLLABI IN SIMPLIFIED AND CONCISE  PATTERN

                           Exercises

Q. Which of the following cannot be easily charged by friction?

a. Plastic scale
b. Copper rod
c. An inflated balloon
d. A wollen cloth

Ans:  b. Copper Rod

Q. When the glass rod is runbed with piece of silk cloth, the rod

a. And the cloth both acquire positive charge
b. Become positive charge and the cloth become negative charge
c. And the cloth both acquire negative charge
d. Become negative charged and the cloth become positive charge

Ans: b. Become positive charged and cloth become negative charge

Q. Write T against true and F against false in following statements.

a. Like charges attract each other

Ans: False

b. A charged glass rod attract a charged plastic straw

Ans: True

c. Lightning conductor cannot protect a building from lightning

Ans: False

d. Earthquake can be predicted in advance

Ans: False

Q. Sometimes a cracking sound is heard while taking off sweater during winters. Explain?

Ans: The woolen sweater gets charged due to the friction with other clothes. Because of that charge, cracking sound is heard while taking off.

Q. Explain why a charger body looses its charge when we touch it with our hand?

Ans:  When we touch a charged body, the charge gets transfered to our body.

This is also called as earthing.

Q. Name the scale on which destructive energy of an earthquake is measured. An earthquake measures three on this scale, Would it be recorded by a seismograph. Is it likely to cause much damage?

Ans: The destructive energy of an earthquake is measured on Richter scale.

Seismograph is another instrument which records earthquake waves. An earthquake of magnitude three will not cause any damage but will be recorded on seismograph.

Q. Suggest three ways to protect ourselves from lightning?

Ans: During lightning, we should stay indoors.

If we are away from home, we should stay in an open space

If we are in a car, we should close all doors and stay inside.

Q. Explain why a charged balloon is repelled by another charged balloon while an uncharged balloon is attracted by another charged balloon?

Ans: A charged balloon is repelled by another charged balloon if they both have same charge.

An uncharged balloon is attracted by another charged balloon because of induction of charge.

Q. Describe with help of diagram an instrument which can be used to detect a charged body?

Ans: The instrument used to detect charged body is called as electroscope.

It contains a metal rod inside a bottle. On one side of metal rod, two Aluminium strips are attached.

When one side of metal rod is touched by charged body, the aluminium strips move away from each other.
